‘We have nothing to eat’: Here’s How You Can help Hungry, Underserved Families

To Alejandra Mapafood has now become a privilege.

Since the lockdown started, Alejandra and her 23-year-old daughter struggled to put food on their table. As a single parent, she used to work as a laundrywoman to support the needs of her daughter who is mentally challenged.

And as if their present hardships were not enough, the pandemic suddenly left her jobless.

The 67-year-old mother has earned nothing in the last months and continues to worry about her beloved daughterAll they can do is to rely on the help given by their neighbors and hope that maybe, one day, all these will come to pass.

“These past few days, if our neighbors would not give us any help, we will have nothing to eat,” Alejandra lamented.

This pandemic became another hurdle, another financial nightmare to single parents and senior citizens like her. As Alejandra and her daughter struggle to afford food, the loving mother does not complain and continues to trust God instead.

“If we will be like this forever, I will accept it. I will take care of her forever. God gave her to me, and whatever happens, she is my child, Alejandra expressed.

When it comes to financial support, they receive too little to nothing at all.

That is why it was a huge relief for Alejandra when Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines – CBN Asia’s humanitarian arm – visited their community in Matabungkay, Lian, Batangas.

Alejandra and other senior citizens in their area received food bags which contain rice, canned goods, and other food items to last for a week. They were also given much-need hygiene kits and vitamins to help protect them from the virus.

“I want to thank God for helping us survive the day, and for using people to bless us. My daughter and I would have something to eat now,” Alejandra ended.

As the country continues to rise to the challenge of this pandemic, thousands of Filipino families still face hunger. You can help lessen their burdens by providing their basic needs.
